I have been searching for a local group of ladies to quilt with, like an old-fashioned quilting bee. So far, not much luck finding anything like that close to me. I have one friend who quilts, but other commitments prevent us from being able to quilt together much. Honestly, my friend and I have discussed this and she is wanting something like this too. It may be that she and I will just have to find the time in our schedules to get together to quilt. We’ll just make our own Quilting Bee!

What Happened to the Quilting Bee?

But I have to wonder, what in the world happened to the old fashioned quilting bee. Is it our busy lifestyles, a move away from hand-crafts in general, too many electronic entertainment distractions – or perhaps a combination of all of those things – that caused us to lose this friendship social gathering ritual?

I like the idea of sitting down with a group of friends, working with our hands on a quilt, creating, talking, laughing… I know they have quilting guilds that have meetings, is that the same thing; or are those ‘meetings’? I don’t want a meeting, I want an informal social quilting bee.

Am I the only one that misses quilting bees? Do you have a quilting bee where you live? Or even a friend or two that you get together to quilt with?
